NESDIS/NCEI Hawaii/Pacific Islands

Liaison, Regional Science Officer

As entities within NOAA, the National Oceanographic Data Center (NODC) and the National Coastal Data Development Center (NCDDC) have shared responsibility for the safekeeping and serving of oceanographic and coastal data and information. The NOAA data centers (climate, geophysical, ocean, and coastal) within the National Environmental Satellite and Information Service (NESDIS) were consolidated in 2015, forming the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). Historically, for outreach into the scientific and public communities within the USA, NOAA/NESDIS/NODC/NCDDC has provided liaison officers, who have helped to guide stakeholders along the easiest pathway for submitting data to or for acquiring environmental data, information, and products from NOAA. The liaison responible for the Hawaiian and US-affiliated Islands in the Pacific is Mr. Patrick Caldwell . He has been based within the Department of Oceanography, University of Hawaii at Manoa since 1987. This effort continues under the NOAA/NESDIS/NCEI.
