Joint Archive for Lowered ADCP
The National Oceanographic Data
Center (NODC) and the
National Coastal Data Development Center
(NCDDC) in collaboration with the
E.Firing Acoustic Doppler
Current Profiler (ADCP) Laboratory
at the University of Hawaii
have established the Joint Archive for
Lowered ADCP (JALADCP). The JALADCP is reponsible
for the acquisition, review, documentation, archival, and distribution
of lowered ADCP data sets. The World Ocean
Circulation Experiment (WOCE) program has played a key role
in motivating the development of the LADCP technology and scientific
application. WOCE is also encouraging the archival of the data, with
the lowered ADCP being incorporated into the
WOCE Shipboard ADCP Data Assembly Center, a collaboration
with the
Japanese Oceanographic Data Center (JODC). The JALADCP strives
to be the central global archive for lowered ADCP datasets, although the initial
emphasis will be on WOCE.
A WOCE-sponsored LADCP Archive Workshop
was held 25-26 March, 2001 at NOAA/NODC SSMC to stimulate an archive
plan and to define a suitable subset for the final
WOCE CDROM dataset.
LADCP experts are strongly encouraged to send suggestions on the
archive development, especially the metadata template (below).
